Mirae Asset Global Investments is expanding its presence in global markets through financial innovation that combines artificial intelligence (AI) technology and digital platforms. Beyond simple product management, it is leading a paradigm shift in asset management by expanding the application of AI to pension management, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), and global corporate entities.
◇AI-Managed Pensions: ‘M-ROBO’ Celebrates 1st Anniversary
Mirae Asset Global Investments launched ‘M-ROBO,’ the first robo-advisor service dedicated to retirement pensions among domestic comprehensive asset management companies, in April of last year. This service is an AI-based pension management solution that comprehensively analyzes investors’ age, investment tendencies, target returns, and other factors to automatically design customized portfolios and perform rebalancing according to market conditions. Its key feature is automating not only advisory services but also actual investment decision-making.
The service has been adopted by Hana Bank, NH Nonghyup Bank, and Industrial Bank of Korea (IBK), with KB Kookmin Bank preparing to launch it. Mirae Asset Global Investments plans to gradually expand its application through partnerships with major retirement pension operators, including Mirae Asset Securities.
◇Proven Performance of AI Funds and ETFs, Expanding Investment Horizons
Since 2016, Mirae Asset Global Investments has applied its in-house AI capabilities to managing public funds and ETFs. A representative example is the ‘Mirae Asset Rational AI Global Momentum Mixed Asset Investment Trust,’ established in January 2020, which is the largest AI public fund in South Korea with net assets of 244.5 billion Korean won. It has recorded annual average returns of over 10% since inception, solidifying its position as a leading AI fund.
The ‘TIGER AI Korea Growth Active ETF,’ South Korea’s first AI-driven active ETF, achieved excess returns of over 30% compared to the KOSPI. The ‘Mirae Asset AI U.S. Nasdaq Fund’ also outperformed the Nasdaq-100 Index. Additionally, the company actively utilizes AI in various products, such as the ‘Mirae Asset AI Quant U.S. Investment-Grade Corporate Bond Fund,’ which selects U.S. corporate bonds using AI models, and the ‘Mirae Asset AI Korea Stock Active EMP Fund,’ which combines domestic ETFs.
◇Accelerating the Establishment of a Global AI Investment Platform
The company is strengthening its AI strategy in global markets. Following the 2023 acquisition of Australia-based robo-advisor specialist ‘Stockspot,’ Mirae Asset established ‘Wealthspot,’ an AI-focused subsidiary in the U.S. in 2024, accelerating financial innovation through AI.
Wealthspot was launched to plan and execute Mirae Asset Group’s AI initiatives. Its goal is to provide customized investment solutions to clients using AI technology for diverse investment objectives. By specializing in systematic AI investment strategy research and development, innovative data and infrastructure construction, and user-friendly investment platforms, it offers flexible and efficient investment solutions.
Last year, Mirae Asset Global Investments’ U.S. ETF asset manager ‘Global X US’ and Wealthspot collaborated to launch the ‘Global X Investment-Grade Corporate Bond ETF (GXIG).’ This ETF selects high-attractiveness corporate bonds using AI models based on the reference index ‘Bloomberg U.S. Corporate Bond Index.’ By analyzing vast amounts of data from the U.S. corporate bond market, it implements efficient asset allocation. Industry experts evaluate that this AI-based bond ETF, still in its early stages, could mark a new turning point in the market.
◇YouTube Subscribers Surpass 500,000… Expanding Digital Touchpoints
The company is also focusing on expanding touchpoints with investors. The official YouTube channel ‘Smart Tiger’ for TIGER ETFs recently became the first in the asset management industry to surpass 500,000 subscribers, with cumulative views exceeding 100 million. It operates diverse programs such as ‘Monthly Dividend Radio,’ which introduces monthly dividend ETF strategies, ‘ETForU,’ which explains market investment strategies, and ‘Monthly TOP10,’ which analyzes popular ETFs, strengthening communication with investors.
Additionally, the company has built a digital platform integrating mobile apps, websites, blogs, and social media to provide consolidated investment information and research.
A source from Mirae Asset Global Investments stated, “We are presenting a new investment paradigm to investors by combining AI technology with long-standing management experience.” They added, “We will continue to lead global markets through innovative products and platforms that integrate finance and technology.”
